Jason Joseph Griswold Jason was born in San Francisco on a foggy summer day, June 28, 1968; he died in Chico, CA, on a rainy fall day, October 2, 2016. Jason grew up on a small cul de sac in Novato, Ca, and was known and remembered by all the neighbors for his mischievious and entertaining personality. He attended elementary school in Novato and high school at Marin Catholic in Kentfield. He delivered papers, was a Cub Scout, and played Pop Warner Football. He attended San Francisco State where he earned a BA in Screen Writing. If there was fun to be had or an idea to explore, Jason was there. He was the light of our lives up to the age of 20. At that point his innocence, exuberance and potential were taken from us all by a serious mental illness that effectively separated us from "our" Jason. He struggled with his challenges for the next 28 years. He lived in the hills of Marin for a time and finally settled in Chico to be near his parents, Barney and Candyce Griswold. There, Jason lived independently until his death. Though his mind was not clear, he never lost his interest in ideas and worked for many years on an invention he called "The Griswold Gizmo". Nor did his heart harden; Jason kept his compassionate spirit, his integrity, and he stayed connected with his family. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary. We, his family who survive him, Barney and Candyce and his sister Andrea (Austin, TX) marvelled always at his tenacity, his courage and grace as he lived a solitary life with few of the simple pleasures we wish for our children. So, we mourn the loss of his life again. First, he lost his hopes for a full life with his illness, and now we have lost his physical presence. We pray and trust that the peace that eluded him so profoundly in his life on earth will be restored to him in his afterlife. There will be a memorial for Jason at a later date. Any memorial contributions can be made to the Chico Salvation Army, where Jason worked for a time repairing bikes, or to The National Alliance for Mental Illness.
