V Smythe Crawford Obituary

Ginger Smythe Crawford (74), born in Glendale, MD to Margaret Haskins and William Smythe died peacefully, with her family by her side, in Baltimore, MD on July 17th. Ginger was a fiercely independent woman who cared deeply for her family and was successful in providing a better life for her family than she experienced as a child. She worked hard as a beautician to provide for her family and to delight her loyal clients at the JCPenney Hair salon in Frederick, MD for 45 years. Ginger was an advocate for social justice causes such as equal rights for women and minorities. She marched on Washington against discrimination and nuclear proliferation. Ginger was also a long-time fixture at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, managing Rosie’s Posies. She adored her home and property in the Mountain State as a resident of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia for over 40 years. She loved music, Volkswagens, and flowers. Ginger is survived by her loving partner of 47 years, John Crawford, her children; Jack and Jennifer Leipold, Christopher and Enid Leipold, and Melissa Crawford, her grandchildren; Tristan Geddy, Dylan Leipold, Quinn Leipold, Nicholas Halterman, Amelia Halterman, Cooper Leipold, and Griffin Leipold, and her siblings; Edward Smythe, Marie Enderton, Jennifer Davis and William Goins. Ginger was a private person that did not discuss her faith and hated the thought of folks talking about her after she was gone. She asked that there not be a service or memorial for her. Before and after she became ill, she constantly reminded us that she had a wonderful life and that we should keep that in mind when she was gone. We will.
