Juanita Evelyn Merriman

Juanita E. Merriman, 92, of Morocco, Indiana passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 21, 1929, daughter of the late James A. Bower and Goldie M. (Durflinger) Bower. Juanita grew up outside of Morocco and attended the Morocco schools. She was the youngest of six children. She raised her four children on the family farm and worked in the fields driving a tractor. She then went to work as a cook at Willow Inn and Merchant’s before retiring in 1991. She loved animals and enjoyed mowing and just being outdoors. She also enjoyed cooking, attending yard sales, playing cards, and spending time with family. She loved listening to the Grand Ole Opry on Sunday nights. Juanita was just a simple lady that truly enjoyed life. She is survived by her four children: Linda (Jim) Bingham of Newark, IL, LaVerne (Debi) Merriman of Joliet, IL, Connie (Rick) Potts of Morocco, IN, and Ernest Merriman of Morocco, IN; and 12 grandchildren: Sherry, Sheryl, Rodney, Rhonda, Jen, Jason, Kelly, Ryan, Bryan, Derek, Blake, and Tausha. Also surviving are 28 great-grandchildren and her companion, Gerald Miarecki. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Leonard, Donald, Glen, and Delose; and one sister, Bobbie. The family is planning a visitation for Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Morocco First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will begin at the church at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Beaver Township Community Center. Private burial will be at Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Steinke Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation services.
