Onofrio Nolan Russo Obituary

Every now and then a life touches others in extraordinary ways. Such was the life of Nolan Russo, age 75, who died on Sunday, July 18, after a nine-month long battle with complications of Covid 19. Onofrio Nolan Russo of Pottersville and Beach Haven Park, NJ was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 6, 1945, to the late Joseph and Rose (Modica) Russo. He attended the New York School of Printing and New Utrecht High School, where he excelled at baseball. In 1963 he was recruited to play for the Milwaukee Braves but was forced to remain at home due to the sudden death of his father. He worked all his boyhood life delivering bread for his grandfather’s bakery and working in his father’s butcher shop. In 1983 he founded and became CEO of Capital Printing Corporation in Middlesex, NJ, which has remained an industry leader for more than 30 years. He was a proud member of The Cento Amici and Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club. He loved the NY Yankees and had a lifelong passion for thoroughbred racing, first as a fan, then, eventually, as an owner and breeder. Nolan was one of the first to introduce syndication into thoroughbred racing. But his most meaningful accomplishments were not in the world of business or sport, but in his true love of people. He had an irreverent love of life and a firm understanding of what was most important – family. His sense of humor was legendary, his exploits and capers, movie worthy. His stories will be told and retold by the many people that he loved and who loved him. He was the memory maker. Always the North Star for those who needed him, his wisdom, sense of fun, and magnetic charm will truly be missed. Nolan is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Linda Marie (Cocito), his loving children: Joseph (Ashley) Russo of Bethlehem PA, twins Nolan (Eve) Russo of Far Hills, NJ and Brett (Jason) Tiede of New Vernon, NJ.; and brothers Frank, Joseph, and Philip. Nolan will be forever missed by his six grandchildren: Nolan and Renna Russo, Maeve and Elin Russo, and James and Nolan Tiede; dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews; and so many others who at one time or another were gladly taken under his wing. He was one of a kind and his legacy will live on through all who were lucky enough to know him. All are invited to remember Nolan on Wednesday, July 21, and Thursday, July 22, from 4-8pm at William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road, Chester, NJ. A funeral service is planned for Friday, July 23, at 11am at the Pottersville Reformed Church, 2090 Black River Road, Pottersville, NJ. Donations can be made in Nolan’s name to the American Institute for Stuttering, 27 West 20th Street, Suite 1203, New York, NY 10011 or online at stutteringtreatment.org .
