With family at her side, Nancy Alice Withun went peacefully to be with the Lord, early on the warm and sunshine filled morning of July 19, 2021 at the age of 83. Nancy Alice (Glassford) Withun was born 1/23/1938 in Mussey Township, MI the daughter of the late Ernest and Sadie (Klug) Glassford. Nancy was the third youngest of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, her eldest son Curtiss as well as her siblings Batrice, Elinor, Phyllis, Clayton, Earl, Jerry, Janice, and Grace. Nancy is survived by siblings Margaret Hurley and John Paul Glassford, two sons Michael (Barbara), Mark (Susanne), daughter Kim Crawford (Ken), grandchildren Morgan, Kari, Melanie, Eric, Preston,Christina, Eric, Amberly, Holly and many nieces and nephews. Nancy grew up on a dairy farm where she assisted her Mother regularly with the many farming chores. Nancy attended Capac High school and graduated in May of 1956. Also in May of 1956, Nancy married her husband Donald of nearly 60 years. Nancy graduated from Nursing school in 1969. Nancy worked as a nurse at Lapeer State home and Crittenton Hospital. Nancy was a Nurse Unit Manager at both Pontiac State Home and Caro Center. Nancy often commented that her most enjoyable job was at Crittenton Hospital as a Labor and Delivery Nurse, which she had for 18 years. Nancy was an avid gardener with a shining green thumb as evidenced by her fantastic garden vegetables and fruit trees. Nancy really enjoyed making jams, jellies, and canning vegetables and sauces. Nancy was also a super seamstress. Nancy made her own clothes when she was younger and made clothes for her children. Later in life, she made numerous blankets and quilts for her loved ones. Church has been a very important part in Nancy's life since she was a child. She was involved with many activities at church, including bake sales, church dinners and cookies for coffee hour after church. Donald and Nancy experienced many enjoyable life events together, such as their children’s births, graduations, weddings, births of grandchildren, retirements, and traveling to wonderful destinations like Hawaii, Washington DC, Chicago, New York, Florida, China, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Netherlands, Verona, Auxerre, Heidelberg, and Rothenburg. Nancy’s life yielded many accomplishments and wonderful memories with family and friends. Nancy suffered many illnesses such as multiple cancers, Guillain-Barre syndrome, multiple strokes, vertebra replacement, chronic kidney infections, and painful arthritis, despite all these challenges, she held strong, persevered, and enjoyed life. Nancy is now at peace with the Lord our Father’s arms wrapped lovingly around her. Nancy will be deeply missed, but the memories made with her will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Nancy's funeral service will be Friday, July 23, 2021, 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 109 Kempf Court, Capac, MI. Visitation at church begins at 10 AM.
