Valerie Laura Tinley, 78, of Oakton, Va, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Inova Loudoun Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Valerie was predeceased by her parents. Valerie is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Thomas Norman Tinley, son David Sholtis, of Smithfield, Pa, daughters Laurie Sholtis (Robert), of Oakton, Va, and Pamela Kelly (Michael), of Ashburn, Va. Grandchildren include Jacob, Nicholas, Alicyn, Andrew, and Ashlyn. She is also survived by her brother, Roderyck Horton (Moya) of Coventry, England and her sister, Cynthia Smith of Greensburg, PA. Valerie was born in Liverpool, England and grew up in West Derby. She came to the United States in 1963 and worked in the medical profession for 57 years as a cancer researcher, a nurse, and a nurse practitioner. When not hard at work in her chosen profession, she enjoyed gardening, singing with the Vienna Choral Society, reading with the Berryland Book Club, and socializing with the Oakton Women’s Club. She also loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and beloved dog, Bentley. Viewing will be held at the Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Avenue, Vienna, Va. 22180, from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm on Monday, July 26, 2021. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Holy Comforter, 543 Beulah Rd, Vienna, Va., on Tuesday, July 27 at 11 am. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Va.
