To attend virtually, please click the following link; Sereta Evans Service Sereta Savoy Blessing Evans, 99, of Newberry passed away Monday, July 19, 2021. Born on October 10, 1921 in Middlesboro, KY, Sereta was the daughter of the late James Gardner and Dora Elizabeth Blessing. Sereta is predeceased by her husband of 68 years and love of her life, William “Bill” E. Evans. A love story for all time, the couple eloped in Kentucky in August of 1946 after meeting at the JC Penney Company store in Middlesboro, KY. After discovering that they were both born on the same day of the same year in the same town, the couple began a lifelong journey filled with love, laughter, and innumerable adventures. They raised their two children, Gardner and Deborah, before retiring to travel to 49 states via recreational vehicle. In addition to her husband, Sereta is predeceased by her brother, Oscar Benjamin Blessing of Beaumont, TX. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert and Deborah Evans Hartness of Newberry and Gardner and Carol Evans of Cary, NC; beloved granddaughters Dianne Hartness of Columbia, and the Reverend Audrey Hartness Reese and her spouse, Ashley Reese, of Westminster. She is also survived by her nephew Dr. James Dennis Blessing and her nieces Sereta Lee Summers, Jan Blessing, and Connie Blessing (Mick) all of Texas, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 25th at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Audrey Hartness Reese and Reverend Tim Erskine. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas S. Hartness, Ashley Reese, Patricia Buddin, and Anna Wise. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to support ministries at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 204 N. Isundega Street, Westminster, SC 29693 and Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun Street, Newberry, SC 29108. Memories and messages of comfort may be left here on Sereta's tribute wall.
