<p>Walter J. Geckler</p> <p>Age 73, of Canton, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021. He was born August 18, 1947 in Canton, a son of the late Walter M. “Tubby” and Hazel (Broad) Geckler, and resided all his life in Canton, Magnolia and East Sparta. Walter was a 1965 graduate of Canton Lincoln High School, and retired in 1990 from The Timken Company after 28 years’ service. He enjoyed coaching his grandson Cole’s baseball team.</p> <p>In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Kathy S. Geckler, on Sept. 28, 2016. Walter is survived by two daughters and one son, Paula (Gary) Walker, Sharon Geckler and Harry "Junior" Saunier, and James Geckler, PhD and son-in-law, Joseph Sorah, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Geckler, Cole Geckler and his children, Nova and Ethan, Tyler Walker and Alyssa Walker. </p> <p>Services will be held Friday at 12 Noon in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Chaplain Joe Kampert officiating. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 11 a.m.-12 noon before the service. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Walters' memory may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care, 2821 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44708.
