Paul James Sollami Obituary

Paul J. Sollami, of Ewing Township, NJ, entered into his eternal rest with the Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90. Paul was born in Trenton, NJ as the 10th of eleven children. He attended Trenton public schools where he was elected class president every year through his senior year at Trenton Central High School in 1949. He graduated from Villanova University with a BA, where he was also class president, and earned his JD from Georgetown University Law School. He also served honorably in the U.S. Army. Paul was an All-State football player, a championship baseball player, and played on the Army baseball team. He was recruited by many colleges and universities to play football, and was recruited to the Phillies farm team for baseball, but chose instead to further his formal education. Paul was an attorney who practiced law in the Trenton area, an Administrative Law Judge, and a 21-year Mercer County Freeholder, who was elected seven times. While on the Freeholder Board, he voted to build the County ice-skating rink, the Airport terminal and for many buildings and improvements at the Community College. He later served as Ewing Township’s Zoning Board attorney. Paul enjoyed every moment of his public service and found fulfillment in helping people. He coached many teams in the North Trenton Little League. He was a long-standing member of the New Jersey and Mercer County Bar Associations and received many community honors and awards. Paul most enjoyed spending time with his family, his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Roseann (Bruno) Sollami, and his two daughters, Mercer County Clerk, Paula Sollami Covello (John Covello), and Maryann (Sollami) Montenegro (Ben Montenegro). He also cherished each of his five grandchildren, Benjamin Montenegro, Alexandra Covello, Michael Montenegro, Elizabeth Covello and Marielle Montenegro and cheered at their sporting events. He looked forward to celebrating his Christmas birthday each year with his large extended family and his many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He also enjoyed holidays with his sister-in-law, Annette Schroth and late brother-in-law, Judge David J. Schroth. A devout Catholic and lifelong Yankees fan, Paul also delighted in taking annual trips to Florida, his beach house in Seaside Park, and drives to Atlantic City. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Paul J. Sollami and Angela (Prizzi) Sollami, and by his siblings, Carl Sollami, Grace Maddalena, Mary Sollami, Dr. William R. Sollami, Carolyn Totaro, Samuel Sollami, James Sollami, Louis Sollami, Sebastian Sollami and Delores (Sollami) Miller. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Joseph T. Bruno and his mother-in-law, Ann Bruno. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, July 23rd at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Rd. in Ewing, NJ. Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 22nd from 5pm to 7pm and on Friday, July 23rd from 10am to 11am, also at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Ewing.
