Patricia Smith Obituary
With a heavy heart, we announce that Patricia D. Smith, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2021. Patricia was born in Staten Island, N.Y., on January 1, 1942, to her parents, the late Patricia Johnson & Raymond DeVenuto. Patricia would talk about how she was raised by her loving grandmother, mother, & stepfather Henry Ford with her older brother, sister, and five younger brothers in the New Jersey area, along with many cousins. Patricia had resided both in Bayonne, N.J., as well as various locations throughout Florida. For many years Patricia worked as a hairstylist in Hollywood, Florida, where she also raised her two children with their father, her former husband, Arnold Duhrkopp. Patricia had a powerful spirit, even as a child, and her presence was always welcomed. That spirit has left her family and friends with countless memories they will cherish for years to come.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Smith of Bayonne, N.J., best friend and only sister Barbara, brothers William, Henry, & Peter. Also, her beloved Uncles & Aunts, Vincent and wife Jane, Francis, John, and wife Barbara, James, and wife Eleanore, William, and Paul Johnson.
Patricia was survived by her uncle Pete Johnson and his wife Rosalie, Aunt Rose Johnson, a childhood friend and adoring wife of the late Paul Johnson, brothers Jesse and his wife, Kyle, Douglas, Thomas, & sister-in-law's, Ellen, devoted wife of her dear departed brother William DeVenuto, Jean, devoted wife of her dear departed brother Peter Ford, her many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Patricia came from a large family whom she loved dearly.
Patricia cherished her family above all else; she leaves behind her two children, Gloria Duhrkopp Nicholson (her favorite son-in-law Thomas Nicholson), Arnold aka L.J. Duhrkopp (Lleana), her three grandchildren; granddaughter Lyndsay Nicholson, grandsons Ryan and Robert Nicholson (wife Kelly) and one great-grandchild, Caitlin.
Her impact on their lives is immeasurable, and her love and kindness towards them will be surely missed but never forgotten.
Mom, you will always be with us in our hearts.
LOVE YOU, MOM!
One of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 — "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, and I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.
