MATTIE AVANT CORBIN MIDLAND CITY…..Mattie Avant Corbin, a resident of County Road 14, Midland City, died early Thursday night, November 20, 2008, in a Dothan hospital. She was 86. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 23, 2008, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Carl Warden and Reverend Frank Fagan officiating. Burial will follow in Sylvan Grove United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland. Mrs. Corbin was a native of Dale County, near Midland City, daughter of the late Bill Avant and Plura Missildine Avant. She lived in the Sylvan Grove Community most of her adult lifetime. Mrs. Corbin was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, near Echo. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Morris Corbin and also two sisters, Marie Cooper and Ruth Avant. Surviving relatives include a daughter, Melba Beasley, Midland City; three sons, Pastor Bennie Corbin and wife, Margaret Corbin, Midland City; Donnie Corbin and wife, Marian Corbin, Colquitt, GA; Max Corbin and wife, Sue Corbin, Napier Field; a former son-in-law, Billy Beasley; a sister, Martha Long, Christian Hill Community; eight grandchildren, Joy Lomaneck, Stephanie Messick, Gary Corbin, Barbara Davis, Michael Corbin, Carol Zekas, Anne Pitts and Melissa Corbin; sixteen great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Serving as active pallbearers will be Gary Corbin, Michael Corbin, Kenneth Davis, Lanny Long, Ranny Long, Mike Skipper, Leroy Cooper, Glenn Cooper, Willie Cooper and Billy Cooper. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. 334-693-3371.
