Mrs. Lillie Mae Slider Evans was born November 24, 1919, to Raford and Lucy Slider, Sr., in Temple, Texas. She attended Dunbar High School and graduated May 26, 1939. She married Mr. Hollis Evans on October 13, 1950, in Greenville, Hunt County, Texas. She worked for McCloskey Hospital, now known as the Temple Veterans Administration Hospital. She also worked as a professional housekeeper and at various other jobs in the Temple area. She owned and operated a restaurant in Downtown Temple from 1962 to 1970. In September 2013, she was recognized along with Marie Franklin Wells as being the second oldest living graduate of Dunbar High School at the Temple Black Heritage dedication ceremony for the Dr. Thomas Edison Dixon Historical Marker, which was placed in front of the school. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Temple for 93 years, joining in 1928 at the age of nine. She was a member of the Mission Chorus and belonged to the Mary Circle, where she served as treasurer. On November 24, 2019, Lillie was honored by the Mt. Zion Church on her 100th birthday at the morning service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raford and Lucy Slider, Sr., her husband, Hollis Evans, daughter, Billie L. Evans, brothers, Frank Slider, Odell Slider, Alvin Slider, and Rayford Slider, Jr., and her sisters, Sarah Slider, Louise Farrow, and Rosie Slider.
Survivors are one son, Harrison Evans of Temple; one daughter, Rigeni Evans of Temple;
14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
