Irene Evelyn Kienia Obituary

Irene Evelyn Barton Kienia, 84, of Warner Robins, Georgia, formerly of Sanford, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2021 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry, Georgia, following a long illness.

Irene was born in Northfield, Vermont on June 14, 1937, one of thirteen children born to Harry and Ida May (Lafrenere) Barton. When she was young her family relocated to Claremont, New Hampshire where she grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Stevens High School in 1955.

In addition to raising and providing for her family, Irene had an artistic side; enjoying painting and sketching, as well as needle point and crochet. She was an avid reader, had a witty sense of humor, and was a kind and compassionate woman. After retiring from a long tenure at Sprague Electric in Sanford, Maine, Irene relocated to Georgia to live with her daughter Gayle, and her family. Irene was an active member of her church in Cary, Georgia, and enjoyed a passion for gardening. She will long be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Edward Kienia and by her youngest son, Shawn Kienia.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Douglas Kienia and his wife Terry of North Berwick, Bradley Kienia of Skowhegan, Walter Kienia, Gayle Bice of Warner Robins, Georgia, William Kienia and his wife Lisa of Greenbush, and Lori and her husband Robert of Buxton; a brother, Alfred Barton of Ferndale, Washington; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 AM with a service following at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 16th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery located on Twombley Road in Sanford.
