Kenneth "Ken" P. Gabrus Obituary

Kenneth P. Gabrus, "Ken" Born May 22nd 1944, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 Saturday, July 10th 2021 during hospice care. Loving and devoted husband for over 57 years to Audrey Gabrus. Caring father of the late John P. Gabrus and Jerome (Jerry) K. Gabrus. Cherished and honored Grandpa of Charlotte (Nick) Gabrus. Cherished Great-Grandpa “Pops” of Olivia "O-liv", Roman "Romey", and Wesley "Luke". Preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lillianne Gabrus, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Arlet Kebbekus, his brother, Donald (Joan) Gabrus, his sisters, Fran Gabrus, Arlene (Ed) Tutkowski, Marilyn (Ed) Wild, his son John Gabrus, and loyal companion Champ. Ken is further survived by other special family members, friends, and loved ones. Ken and Audrey started their life together at a young age and focused on building and supporting their family together. They shared a love of having 2 sons, 1 and only granddaughter, 3 GREAT-grandchildren, along with their pets and companions, Sam, Misty, Bear, Boots "Homer", Kitty "Q-tip", and Kitty "Nugget". They shared other passions such as car shows, cooking, gardening, spending time and being with the grand-kids, and “cruising around” or “going for a cruise” in one of the many trucks or classic cars Ken restored. Ken was a proud member of the Union Local 139 for many years. He worked as a skilled heavy equipment operator and completed many local construction projects through the years. Ken was a hard-working man and gained many friends through his working years that long lasted after retirement. Ken also was able to work with his son, Jerry, through the years which made for good stories and memories that he often shared. After retirement Ken could always be found in the garage working on a car or “putzing” or fixing something. He was an extremely knowledgeable man with a heart of gold. Ken had unbelievable mechanical skills and could fix or repair just about anything he worked on. Ken will be remembered for his hard work ethic, his physical and mental strength, his love for his family, and the kind, caring person he was; he would give you the shirt off his back. Ken will be deeply missed by his granddaughter, Charlotte, as they shared a close bond which also started in the garage while working on cars. He will be missed by all that had the fortune of spending time with him over the years. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 15250 W. National Ave., New Berlin, WI from 11:00 AM until time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Burial at Arlington Park Cemetery.
