David Thorton Toothman Obituary

David Thornton Toothman, 68, of Morgantown entered into rest Thursday, September 17 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 7, 1947 to the late Brentford and Violet (Hunt) Toothman. Following high school, David enlisted into the US Army in 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam, where he received the rank of Sergeant. During this time he was awarded Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp-2 Loops and his expert Badge for rifle. David was very proud to serve his country. Upon his honorable discharge in 1976 he went to work for CONSOL and retired from the mines with 11 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Westover VFW Post 9916 and also a member of the UMWA. He was a loving family man and had a big place in his heart for his grandkids. David enjoyed dining out, possessed a great sense of humor and was a great dancer. He spent his leisure time traveling to places such as Disneyland, Tennessee, and Charlottesville, Virginia. David is survived by his sons; Bryan Toothman and fiancée Trisha Hern of Grafton, WV and David Lee Duley of Houston, PA, daughter Monica (Harry) Dalton of Morgantown, WV; brothers; Gary Michael (Pat) Toothman of Westover, WV, Larry Edward Toothman and Nancy D'Amico of Rivesville, WV, Michael (Brandi) Toothman, and Norman (Vicki) Watts; sister, Sue Ellen (Ron) Davis of Westover, WV. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Kirsten Gribble, Drake, Avery, and Emery Toothman, Shawn and Willy Dalton and his adoring pets, Daisy Mae and Kitty. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and many beloved special cousins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Duley-Toothman and step mother Betty Jean Toothman. Family and friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Monday, September 21st from 5pm until 8pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday, September 22nd from 10 am until the time of service at 11am with Rev. Allen Donham officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson.
