Hannah J. Matthews Northfield, New Jersey Obituary

Hannah J. Matthews

Hannah Jayne Matthews (Mathis), age 95, entered heaven peacefully on July 8, 2021 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for years. She was born December 22, 1925 to John Mathis and Martha MacIntyre and raised in Pleasantville, NJ. She was a retired Bell Telephone operator where she started working at the age of 16. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. She was also a devoted member of her church, Bethany St. John’s United Methodist Church in Pleasantville, NJ. She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband Robert Warren Gill Sr., her second husband Wm. Ralph Matthews, her son Robert Warren Gill Jr, her sister Dottie Thomas, her brother William Mathis and seven other Mathis siblings. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Jayne Gill, daughter-in-law Sally J. Gill, and step daughter Alix Talbott, grandchildren Matthew Anderson, Jamie Heritage, Robert Warren Gill III, Courtney (& Cliff) Gehret, and her seven great grandchildren (Taylor, Darby, Chase, Johannah, Ezekiel, Silas, and Lydia), and one great-great grandchild. She was blessed to live her last eight years in a four generation home with her daughter, granddaughter, and great grandchildren. Her friends and family knew her as a lively woman who loved Jesus. She also had a mean sweet tooth. To say she will be deeply missed is an understatement. Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, July 17th at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home in Northfield, NJ. Visitation will be from 10-11. A service will be held at 11 followed by burial at Green Wood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethany St. John’s United Methodist Church (615 Risley Ave., Pleasantville, NJ) or Blood donation to American Red Cross due to Blood Shortages.
