Klyda Irene Bertelson Obituary

Klyda, age 97, died in Ontario. Klyda was born in Villisca, IA on March 9, 1924 to parents Lula Roberts Singleton and Guy Singleton. Her parents and siblings Dorothy, Doris and Vincent then moved to Iowa City, IA where she graduated from City High. Klyda had planned to enter Nursing School at John Hopkins University in Maryland but had a change of plans. She worked at a Real Estate office during WWII in the Washington DC area. She returned to home to attend University of Iowa, while there she met Bob Bertelson. They married January 1, 1947. After marrying they moved to Onawa, IA where Deanne was born. In 1957 they moved to Ontario, OR where they later purchased the funeral home Bertelson-Lienkaemper Memorial Chapel and Lori was born. Klyda worked as accountant for various businesses in Ontario, Jaycette volunteer where she met lifelong friends, active as a Girl Scout leader, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #502 member, Treasurer of the United Methodist Church and an avid bridge player. Never missing her daughters’ school activities, sports events, band, etc. After Bob and Klyda divorced, she moved to Southern California settling near her sister and family. She was an accountant for Petan Co. She lived and had an office on their beautiful ranch in Montecito, CA, 1977 to 1992. While in California she was a Sigma Kappa Alum Initiate at UCLA. She then advised the chapter Treasurer at the SK Beta Chi chapter at UCSB. A few years later upon return to Ontario, she enjoyed being “Nana” to her favorite granddaughter Brenda. Nothing made her happier than to be with her family. A very proud OSU Beaver Mother – GO Beavs! She is survived by daughters Deanne Bertelson (Doug Cline) of Long Beach, CA and Lori Bennett (Bob) of Payette; and granddaughter Brenda Bennett of Payette. Klyda is also survived by nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is a 30+ year Breast Cancer Survivor. The family would like to thank Matt, Angelica, Brook and staff at Dorian and Sonja and Trina at Heart ‘n Home Hospice for their loving care and dignity they provided Klyda.
