Edward N. Stewart

CANISTEO: Edward N. Stewart, 82, of Windfall Rd. passed away peacefully Thursday morning, July 8, 2021 at Elderwood in Hornell after an extended illness. Ed was born October 2, 1938 in Avoca to John and Irene (Storms) Stewart. On July 1, 1961 in Wallace, he married the former Marcelene Pierce who predeceased him in June of 2014. He was also predeceased by a son Christopher Stewart in February of 2014. Ed was a life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley and had been employed as a mechanic and bus driver for the Canisteo Central School district for several years. After retirement from the bus garage he worked part time on ABC Ranch on the Cunningham Creek Rd, where he was kind of a “jack of all trades”. He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to travel to Nova Scotia and Florida. He was a part of the American Legion War Dads, Canisteo American Legion. Ed is survived by a son Michael Stewart of Canisteo, granddaughter, Grace Stewart and daughter-in-law, Corinne Stewart-Lamphier all of Canisteo, two sisters Lynda Dygert and Nancy Dodd, a brother Jack Stewart. good friend Peggy Hudacsek of Canisteo and special nephew and “Text Buddy” Brian Dygert. The family will receive friends from 1-4 pm Sunday, July 11th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 4:00 pm. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Ed’s name may be made to American War Dads, Canisteo American Legion, P.O. Box 141, Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.

Ed was a great man. He was always caring and like a father figure to a lot of us kids he drove to school. It says a lot that a bunch of teenagers respected him and loved him. Rest easy Ed , prayers to his family.
