Betty Jean Simon Obituary

Betty Jean Bemiller Simon passed in her home on July 4th, 2021 with her daughter Cynthia, by her side.  She entered into peaceful rest after a well fought battle.  We will all miss the laughter and joy she shared with friends and family.

Betty was born in Butler, Ohio on March 9th, 1939.  She lived her life in Mansfield, Ohio and spent many winters of her life in the Cayman Islands and some in Plano, Texas. Not to forget beautiful summers in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada with her family.

Betty had a full life of experiences.  Her nickname was "Hurricane Betty".  She loved to play bingo with her friends each week, playing lottery, scratch off’s and always loved her trips to Las Vegas.  When she played, she was often lucky and certainly enjoyed her winning streaks.  Betty was a fabulous cook who loved surprising her friends and family with her “famous” banana cream and coconut cream and cherry pies.  She had a keen and natural comedic sense and we all cherished her knack for being accidentally funny.  She was a true people person, walking in a room full of strangers and leaving the same room with everyone being touched by her ability to make you laugh.  When Betty wasn’t caught enjoying her hot-dogs or donuts, she was gathering things for the Humane Society or some other charity.  When she finally had her one and only grandchild arrive, that is when her life became fully complete.  Heaven has truly gained one special lady.  Her career included working at Tom’s Restaurant, the Elk’s lodge for 22 years and finally at Semon’s Steakhouse, where she also performed managerial duties until retiring in 1989 at the age of 50 to enjoy more time with her family and friends and to travel extensively on cruises through Alaska, Europe and the Carribbean.  She had always dreamed of visiting Hawaii and did on more than one occasion.  She was a blessed woman with a blessed life.  She will be greatly missed.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Leroy Bemiller and Anna Sara Ginter, and her sisters Annabelle Fitch and Alice Rose Kanz and Robert Christian Kanz.  She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Garrett Butler Wilson who resides in Delray Beach, Florida and her son Richard Todd Simon (Dottie Simon) and Chris Bellamy who resides in Plano, Texas.
Also surviving her is her adored grandson Scott Garrett Butler, her nieces Steve and Sonjia Schag, Rodney and Melodie Schag, Christine McMillen and Chuck Bauer and Robert Kanz and Michael Dietrich.

Memorial services are currently pending for in the autumn in Mansfield, Ohio.
There will also be a small memorial service held this fall in the Cayman Islands.

In lieu of flowers, Betty would be delighted to have a donation made instead to her favorite charity, the SPCA.
