Obituary

Bernhard (Ben) Dick

March 27, 1939 ~ June 25, 2021 (age 82)

It is with a heavy heart I announce the passing of Bernard (Ben) Dick, who was suddenly taken from us on June 25th 2021 in Sechelt at the age of 82.

He was a loving and caring stepfather, grandfather (Chini), brother, uncle and nephew, who will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure of having Ben in their lives.
Ben was born in Clearbrook on March 27, 1939 to Jacob and Annie Dick, where the family resided throughout most of their childhood and then relocated to Vanderhoof.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Olive Sarah Dick, stepson, Jackie Pollard, father Jacob, mother Annie, sister Helen and brothers, Dave and Sam. He is survived by his siblings Nick, Jake, Martha, Peter, John and Ann, and his nephews and nieces.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Fran, Teresa, Glenn, Sheree, Shirley, 15 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

Ben was a faller for many years and travelled to all different areas in BC to logging camps for work. While working in Juskatla in Haida Gwaii, he met Olive Pollard and married her in the early 70s in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii at Ed and Jessie Young’s home (Olive’s parents).

Ben, Olive, Sheree and Jackie packed up and moved to Sechelt where this became their forever home. Quite a few years after Olive passed away, Ben moved into Shorncliffe Care Home where he resided until his untimely passing.

Ben’s favorite pass time was meeting up with friends at Pier 17 in Davis Bay for a coffee and a cigarette. He loved reminiscing about his faller days and took much pride in his accomplishments as a faller.

We are all going to miss Ben’s quirky sense of humour and his infectious smile, that always made a person feel warm and welcome.  Our family would like to thank the Shorncliffe Care Home staff for the loving care they have given Ben over the years.

A memorial service will be held at Devlin Funeral Home, 579 Seaview Road in Gibsons.
July 15 at 11 am

Burial will be at Seaview Cemetery, 1706 Lower Rd, Robert's Creek.
July 15 at 12:30 pm, plot 123-1

We are pleased to provide Ben’s Memorial Service virtually for those people who are unable to attend in person.
