Wayne Holland Obituary

Wayne Holland
1934–2021

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on July 3 after a long and love-filled life. Wayne is survived by Bonnie Kaye, his lifetime sweetheart of 65 years, and three sons, Wayne, Kyle, and Mike (Nanette). He was preceded in death by his youngest son Troy in 1999. Wayne and Bonnie were blessed with seven grandchildren (Justin, Mindy, Chelsea, Nick, McKay, Russell, and Josh) and 11 wonderful great grandchildren.

Wayne’s lifetime passions were his family, his fellow workers via organized labor, and his persistent love of learning. After a career with Kennecott Copper, he attended the University of Utah, the National Labor College, and earned a degree from Antioch College. He found purpose helping other working folks better provide for their families through representation and organization, eventually becoming the United Steelworkers union representative for the western United States, a mentor to countless union representatives, and a trusted advisor to two governors and many members of Congress. Most importantly, he was a kind, nurturing and humble man who impressed upon all those around him the value of meaningful work, education, fairness, and a healthy sense of humor. We will always remember your sly, gentle smile and your unmatched ability to listen selflessly, with undivided attention, to ensure even the smallest voices are heard. ’til we meet again.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 Friday, July 9, 2021 at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W. 4100 S.
