Oh Boy, Here We Go!!! Mr. Michael L. Lovely - Age 83+ Loving husband to Mr. Kelly B. McDonald, Michael who was 25 years Kelly's senior passed away at The Regency -Assisted Living Facility, on the 2nd day of July 2021, approximately at 9:30 am. Mike -Who possessed incredibly deep blue eyes, and possibly thickest eye brows I think I have ever seen, was a inspiration to all the people he ever met. He would on occasion remark, If I am not having a good time, it is my own fault . A Long time resident of Bend, Oregon who transferred to Bend from Mt. Shasta, Ca. in 1978 with his job with the Forest Service.“Reaganonomics” in 1985 brought Mikes career of more that 27 years with the Forest Service to a early end, and forced him into early retirement at the very young age of 47. Mike was born in Long Beach, California, Mike moved his Mobile Home from Mt. Shasta to Romaine Village in 1978, and in 2016 moved to The Regency in Bend, where he spent his final years. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Helen Lovely who worked in public education and his Dad who was a California State Trooper, his 2 brothers Patrick, and Moe Lovely, his adopted step brother Billy, a beloved Uncle Harold, nephew Kegan Lovely of Weaverville, 2 nieces, and a score of grand children, on both sides of Mikes family line. Mike leaves behind his husband Kelly (Kel for short), of nearly 30 years, only 2 ½ months shy of their 30 year anniversary– Mike drove taxi for Owl Taxi in the 1980 for Owl Taxi, for Al and Viola Biggs after his retirement with the Forest Service, and later in the 1990's for High Cascade Printing for Tim and Patti Rausch. Owners and operator's of High Cascade Printing, of Bend. If you got to know Mike you knew he was a Tour de Force, a Real Dynamo of a Man, he would rolled his sleeves up, and dive right in to get the job done, no matter what it took, If you were acquainted with Mike you knew he wore many, many, many hats, almost to many hats to count, I personally can't recall all of them but the ones I can remember are here. The following is a list of Organizations that Mike either belonged too, or volunteered with. He was one of the 4 founding members of C.O.A.S.T Central Oregon Aids Support, that eventually closed in the 1990, he worked with David Glassman. Through the Deschutes Health Department with. I remember names like Taffy Gleason, Ellie Work, Kathy Rocco, Bill Herz. Mike was A member of The Citizens Advisory Council for the Sheriff parole and probation program out at the county. Mike belong to PFLAG of Central Oregon, and helped with litter patrol. He was President of NARFE National Active Retired Federal Employees. President of Romaine Village Home Owners Associaton, President of Southwest Bend, Neighborhood Association. Mike attended City of Bend, City Council meetings. Mike ran for political office in the 1990's, who it was I can't recall at this late date. He also worked with Bruce Amsbary . And would go up to COCC and be interviewed. Mike owned a 1981 Honda Goldwing GL1100 and rode with Central Oregon Road Riders, for over 15 years, his partner Kelly, also joined C.O.R.R, beginning in 1992, and rode his Honda Silver Wing GL500 in the motorcycle club, some of the members were Jim and Laura Welborne, their son Dennis, and many additional members, including: Murphy, Heini, Richard, and his wife. Mike developed arthritis in his right hip at age 60, and was unable to continue riding in C.O.R.R. Mike. Mike loved to ski, and was a incredible on the powder at Mt. Bachelor, and prior to moving to Bend in 1978 he skied Mt. Shasta in California, Mammoth Mountain, he skied at Whistler in Canada, and many other places, and he was also a avid golfer too!!! As a teenager he worked at the Weaverville Movie Theater as a film projectionist, operator. He also went out on ambulance runs with is Dad, prior to being drafted into the Army (I think 1958?) When he was drafted in the Army Mike scored the highest, score in the entire Battalion, (more than 5,000 men/women and received proficiency pay throughout his years in the military. His desire was to become a helicopter pilot, but the waiting line was more than 2 years long, and instead he worked in the Motor Pool, and drove a 5 ton wrecker, and his co-driver was a Warrant Officer 2 with over 30 years of service, his wrecker was the only wrecker with a working heater. He always said he would have continued to re-enlist again, and again, and eventually he would have retired “if” “if” the military had stayed the same during his service at Ft. Lewis, Washington, ”Mike had a 1977 4-WD van that was painted all “ORANGE” with a 460 V-8 that he always referred to as his “Orange Blossom Special” his personal license plate was, “Scaler” and the license plate trim said: Happiness is Living in Bend.” Mike attended church at The United Church of Christ, and is greatly missed at church. There will be a celebration of life for Mike as soon as possible, in hopefully 3 weeks, or less, as soon as I can set it up for Mike, so all who knew Mike can come, and say their goodbyes, and have closure, with Our Beloved. Michael!!! On the front door to his room hung a large oval engraved sign that read: ENCHANTED FOREST!!!! Rest in Peace Michael – You enjoyed a rich, full, and rewarding life, full of Love and Magic, full of full of Laughter, and full of Comradery, You are a Gentleman and a Scholar, and the world needs more Men of Valor like you in it. You are a Truly Magical Being sent from God above, to be a inspiration to all of us down here, You were boots on the ground, and all the love you have spread throughtout your lifetime will never be forgotten, no matter where you lived. “Where Every You Go – There you Are” and you will live on in our hearts in infinitum “FOREVER AND EVER!!! You have earned the love, respect, and admiration of Deshutes County Sheriffs, D.A. City of Bend Commissioners, and all the organizations that you were either President of, or belonged to. Job well done. My Beloved Michael. You are forever in our heart, mind, and souls. And we shall never forget all the good you did when you amongst us, in the body. The Lord giveth, and The Lord taketh away, Blessed Be The Name of The Lord, Forever and Ever, AMEN. Do this in remembrance of me. AMEN. Oh, one last thing I just recalled was that: Mike and Kelly attended “Gay Men's Dinner Group in the 1990's which was hosted by Dan – and his partner Steve Kenison.
