Marguerite P. Boucher Obituary

Marguerite Boucher, age 89, of Sanford passed away on July 4, 2021 at Sealrock Healthcare in Saco.

She was born on March 13, 1932 to Clarence and Maria (Dumais) Porell in Sanford where she grew up and attended St. Ignatius from grade school through high school.

Throughout her schooling it quickly became apparent that her voice was special. She received coaching and encouragement by the Ursuline sisters and was hired by the parish to cantor 3 masses per day through high school. She quickly became known for singing at liturgical events, weddings, anniversaries and funerals. In the '60's and '70's, she directed the youth folk group at St. Ignatius and went on to direct the adult choir while continuing the tradition of singing the Ave Maria at every Midnight Mass for many years. She believed: "singing is twice praying".

She was devoted to her church and its supportive organizations. She was a member, president and board member of St. Jean-Baptiste and continued her service after they merged with Catholic Family Life until her retirement. She was also a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and Daughters of Isabella.

While raising a family of four boys and leading the church's music ministry, her drive for a better life for her family motivated her to move up the career ladder at Northeast bank where she became the manager of their Wells Beach branch. She was then hired at Sanford Institution for Savings (now Partners) to open their first branch, and she was credited with assisting the bank transition into the digital world. She was also a member of the local chapter of Kiwanis and was proud to be the first female Kiwanian in the state of Maine. She retired at the age of 65 as the Branch Manager/Vice President.

She loved travel, internet chatting and hosting family at special events. She loved celebrating her family's milestones by calling family and friends on their birthdays to sing. Holidays with her family were the happiest times of her life. She loved to play cards and frequently spoke about playing cards with her mom and sister in heaven.

As a sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she was well loved in her role as Matriarch of the Boucher Family. She is survived by her four sons and daughters in law: Marc and Eda in Arizona, Denis in Massachusetts, Guy and Lorraine in Wells, Maine, James and Christine in W. Newfield, Maine, her six grandchildren and spouses: Christine and Craig O'Donnell, Jessica Crane, Adam and Julianne Boucher, Andrew and Emily Boucher, Michael and Megan Boucher, and Chantelle Boucher as well as her eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Eva, Logan, Oliver, Joey, Quinn, Riley and Ella and brothers Alcide and wife Yvonne Porell in Tennessee and Robert Porell in Florida (Who passed away 36 hours after his sister) as well as her fiancé Eric Ireland of Canada.

She was preceded in death by her mother Maria and sister Beatrice.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 12 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave., Sanford. Burial will be immediately following at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
