Barbara June Schoenrock, 85, of Mitchell, SD, formerly of Platte, SD passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell, SD. Funeral Services are 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 7, 2021 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. Both services will be live-streamed under "Photos and Videos" on the funeral home website (Webcasting) and through “Mount Funeral Homes” Facebook page.

Barbara was born on November 8th, 1935, in Vermillion, SD to the late Henry L. and Mable (Fallen) Walz. The first 6 years of her life were spent in Vermillion and then moved to a farm north of Vermillion where she spent the next 8 years of her childhood. They moved to a farm near Gayville, SD where they lived for 2 years, before moving to Platte, SD. Barbara attended Platte High School and graduated in 1953. While living in Platte Barbara met the love of her life, Ivan Schoenrock and on March 21st, 1954, Barbara and Ivan married. During their union they had 6 children: Bonnie, Gary, Larry, Lisa, Dan, and June.

While residing on the farm in Platte they milked cows, and she helped with chores, gardened, butchered chickens, and cared for her children. In March 1980, they had a farm sale and moved into Platte. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and the Olive Presbyterian Church of Platte. She taught Sunday School at the Olive Presbyterian Church. Barbara enjoyed sewing and was quite the genealogist, she researched not only her ancestors but Ivan’s ancestry as well and made photo albums full of information and photos.

After suffering a stroke in 2003 Barbara & Ivan moved into a smaller home before moving into an assisted living called “Home Sweet Home” in Platte, SD. In 2015, Barbara & Ivan moved to Countryside Living in Mitchell, SD. Ivan moved to Platte Nursing Home in April of 2015 and passed away June 5, 2015, at the Platte Hospital. On October 29th, 2019, Barbara moved into Avera Brady Health and Rehab. While residing at Brady Health & Rehab she was on lockdown from March 2020 until May 2021 due to COVID-19. While at Brady, Barbara enjoyed playing BINGO, crafts, doing Word-Finds and a lot of coloring. She gave everyone that came to visit a coloring page just for them.

Barbara is survived by her five children: Bonnie (Richard) Hoppe of Platte, SD, Gary (Ranae) Schoenrock of Fulton, SD, Larry (Barb) Schoenrock of Stickney, SD, Lisa (Larry) Beck of Cavour, SD, and June Thompson (Tim Pranger) of Mitchell, SD; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeff) Sonne, Trina (Tom) Olsen (Elizabeth, Marissa, Addison), Melanie (Luke) Wagner, Justin Schoenrock (Hadley & Jacey), Jessica (Seth) Severtson (Garrett, Samuel, Gus), Christina Manyang (Jeff)(Akol)(Caylee), Amber Scott (David)(Anuyon, Alycia, Aryia, Silas), Spenser Schoenrock, Ryan Beck (Yinhla)(Pawnay, Blessing), Hannah Beck, Josy Thompson (Brad), Bailey Thompson, Emily Thompson; and many step-grand and step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara is also survived by her brother, Pat (Theresa) Walz of Platte, SD; sister, Mae Easton of Mesa, AZ; and brother-in-law, Arlo Schoenrock of Platte, SD.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan in 2015; son, Daniel in 1994; parents, Henry in 1986 and Mabel in 1972; in-laws, Herman in 1974, Mabel in 1989; sister, Marilyn in 1940 and brother-in-law, Ron Easton in January 2021 of COVID; and grandsons: Johnny Beck in 1994 and Baby Boy Hoppe in 1979.
