Elizabeth Ann “Root” Harrell, 63, of Knightdale, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2021 in Boston, Massachusetts. Ann was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to “Boonie” Harrell and Ernestine Harrell. She worked for the Wake County Public School system starting as a bus driver and ending as a one-on-one special education teacher assistant. Ann also worked for many years with the Knightdale Parks and Recreation Department working summer camps, holidays, and parades for decades. Upon retirement, Ann travelled the world as often as she could, read as many books as she could fit on her coffee table, and laughed as hard as her tiny tummy would allow. She was a fervent lover of animals, dedicated sister and aunt, and loyal friend to all who were lucky enough to know and be loved by her. Ann is survived by her siblings: Royal Blair Harrell (wife Foy Jane Harrell) of Rougemount North Carolina, Willie Coleman Harrell III of Knightdale North Carolina, Kelly Yvonne Harrell of Knightdale North Carolina, and Benjamin Andrew Harrell of Knightdale North Carolina. She is also survived by niece Courteney Blair Harrell of Concord North Carolina, niece Hayley Nicole Schiebel (husband Francesco Peri) of Boston Massachusetts, and nephew Willie Coleman Harrell IV (wife Adrienne Harrell) of Concord North Carolina along with several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Ann requested that her body be donated to science, but a celebration of life will be held at Knightdale Station Park at 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday July 10, 2021 (at the pavilion near the Oak City Brewing Company). Ann was VERY specific that she wanted fun memories and food to be shared only so please bring on or both of these on Saturday! In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ann’s name to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
