Anna Marie (Marie) Sturgeon

August 25, 1949 – June 27, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Sturgeon of Gibson’s, British Columbia, and it is with great pride that we honour the life she led.  Marie was born in Calgary, Alberta and later moved to Cremona, Alberta where she started her family and actively volunteered with Girl Guides Canada, the United Church, and Cremona School.  She loved pets, friends, sports, and laughs, and later in life became an accomplished poet.  Marie was a trauma survivor who fought a courageous battle with mental illness for most of her life.  Through it all she never failed to treat all others with kindness and dignity.  There never lived a more gentle soul.  She was a wonderful mom, grandma and friend.

Marie was pre-deceased by her mother Myrtle (Betty) McCutcheon (nee Brinson), stepfather Eldon McCutcheon, and father Jack Jory.  She is survived by her brother Jack Jory and sister Donna McGimpsey (nee Jory), and children Christine, Laurie, and Joseph (Joanna) Sturgeon.  Marie is also survived by her granddaughters Alisha, Navarra, Jamie, Brooke and Hope.

Marie had a strong social and support network at the Arrowhead Clubhouse in Sechelt, British Columbia up until her passing.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marie’s honour to the Arrowhead Clubhouse through the Sunshine Coast Community Services society (www.sccss.ca).
