Ruby E. Seymour Obituary

Ruby E. Seymour, 76, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and formerly of Osceola, passed away Thursday evening, July 1, 2021, at Harmony at Independence in Virginia Beach.

Ruby was born July 2, 1944 in Hagerstown, Maryland to the late Henry and Elnor (Kobold) Schnitzer. She grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey and was a graduate of Dickinson High School. She attended Jersey City State College earning a Bachelor’s in Registered Nursing.

On July 24, 1965, Ruby married Dennis G. Seymour. The couple moved permanently to the Michiana area in 2005. Recently, Ruby lived near her son in Virginia Beach.

Ruby was an RN in Jersey City Hospitals and spent 30 years at Palisade Medical Center. In New Jersey, she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and in Mishawaka she was a member of First English Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a member of In Harmony Singing Group. Dennis and Ruby enjoyed traveling. She liked playing the piano, baking, cooking, flower gardening and was fluent in Spanish. She was a passionate fan of the original Star Trek series.

Ruby is survived by a daughter, Wendy (Donald) McKee of Kingsley, Michigan; a son, Douglas (Karen) Seymour of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, William, Hunter and Matthew Seymour, and Jason “J.D.” (Casey) McKee; and three great grandchildren, Lillyana, Addison and Evan McKee.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, who passed away on their 50th Anniversary in 2015. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Roy Seymour; a grandson, Donald Edward McKee III; and a brother, Joseph Schnitzer.

Services honoring Ruby’s life and faith will be held Friday, July 9, at 10 am in First English Lutheran Church, 16495 Ireland Road, Mishawaka, with Pastor Jeff Zell officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5 – 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and on Friday from 9 – 10 am in the church.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana.
