Retired Waterbury Fire Battalion Chief, Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

 

August “Gus” V. Deimantas , 92, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.  Gus was the beloved husband of Angela (Magnarella) Deimantas for over 68 years.

Gus was born January 30, 1929 in Waterbury, CT, the youngest child of the late Pranas and Ona (Jakutavich) Deimantas.  Gus proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era.  He then went on to dedicate his life as a firefighter for the Waterbury Fire Dept, ultimately earning the rank of Battalion Chief prior to his retirement.  Gus and Angela were married May 16, 1953 and enjoyed 68 happy years together.  Family was always Gus’ first priority. He treasured his family, being   father to Thomas and grandfather to Tomee Lee and Taylor Jo and spending time with them made him the happiest.  He also enjoyed golf and was a devoted Red Sox fan.

Besides his loving wife Angela, Gus leaves to cherish his love and honor his memory his son Thomas and wife Karen of Anna Maria Florida, granddaughters Tomee Lee and husband Brien Jones of Greenville, NC and Taylor Jo and husband David Caudill of Minneola Fla and his precious great grandchildren Jax and Lynnlee Caudill as well as nieces, nephews , cousins and many friends.

Gus is predeceased by his brothers Alphonse, Frank, Victor, George, and Joseph and sisters Mary and Ann Anbroziatis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 10;30 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Rd, Prospect.  Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery.  Friends and family are invited to an hour of visitation on Friday July 2, 2021 from 9 am to 10 am at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd. Prospect.
