Michelle Senayah Obituary

Michelle Senayah (nee Smith) November 1984 – June 2021 Michelle’s family are devastated to announce her sudden and unexpected passing on Tuesday, June 29th, 2021, at the age of 36. She will be sadly missed by her partner Dave Constable, parents Ian & Liz Smith , brother Darren, sister-in-law Antonia and their children Thomas & Rose, and all of Dave’s and Michelle’s extended Canadian families, as well as all of her relatives, friends, colleagues and associates here, in the UK and abroad. Michelle travelled extensively during her time at the University of Waterloo in their Bachelor of Architecture Co-Op program, with numerous overseas work terms, and graduated with honours in 2007. She made an extraordinary recovery from a serious accident in 2008 and went on to complete a Masters in Urban Design Studies from the University of Toronto in 2010. In her career Michelle helped create Open Streets TO and became the starting point and founder of The Laneway Project (www.thelanewayproject.ca), channelling her passion for unlocking the potential of under-used public spaces – namely 2400 laneways in Toronto - to provide a well planned vibrant laneway network. This led to her being such a committed, energetic and passionate proponent of this new arena for improving the look and feel of her city. Away from work, Michelle loved cooking, gardening, reading, current events, travelling, and documentaries, as well as sharing time with her families and friends. Michelle, you left us much too soon but you will be forever in our hearts. Cremation arrangements have been made through Skinner & Middlebrook Funeral Home in Port Credit. A small family memorial service will be held in the next few weeks, with a wider celebration of life to be held at some point later this year. If desired, donations to honour Michelle may be made to The Laneway Project, a non-profit organisation, https://www.thelanewayproject.ca/in-memory-of-michelle
