Walter J. Leszkowicz Obituary

Walter Leszkowicz, born on May 16, 1949, passed into eternal rest on Monday, June 28, 2021. For 29 years, Walter was the loving husband to Tamai “Mari” Leszkowicz. He was also the devoted father of Ken Leszkowicz, who currently lives in Tokyo, Japan with his wife Giselle Gemignani. Walter’s parents were John Andrew (health aide on a United States Naval hospital ship during WWII) and Helen Constance (loving mother and sales personnel). He is the brother of Robert.

Walter was born in New York City and was a devoted Yankees fan. Having the Yankees radio on was a nightly routine for as long as his family could remember. He became a lifelong resident of Bergen County since 1952. He graduated from Ascension School in New Milford, St Joseph High School in Montvale, and attended St. Peters College for a time before entering the job market. For many years, Walter struggled with Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating disease which eventually contributed to his death. Even through his difficult times, his love for the family, including the cat, Kay, that he first didn’t want but ended up being buddies, was truly unconditional. Walter chose their wedding ceremony to be held in Hawaii in order to accommodate Tamai’s family that was flying in from Japan. As a family, they toured the islands and volcanos. Despite the language barrier, Walter communicated using gesture, showing his kindness. One of his favorite things to do was watch his son Ken play baseball from Little League until High School. He will be remembered for his determination fighting MS as best he could, in spite of his struggles.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the funeral home Friday, July 2nd from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm and 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his memory the following day, Saturday, at 10 am in St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, Cresskill.
