Verna Ayers
<p>Mrs. Verna Tilley Carter Ayers, 90, of Knightdale, NC, and formerly of Mount Airy passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Mrs. Ayers was born in Surry County, March 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Elwood and Emma Utt Tilley. She was retired from Hanes Brands and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Mike Godwin; grandchildren, Natasha Davis Allen and husband, Jeffrey, and Joshua Hayden Godwin and wife Libby; great grandchildren, Justin Jones Allen and Jakob Davis Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Daniel Carter and Jack Ayers, and brothers, Harry Lee Tilley and George Tilley. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 2, 2021, at 12:00 noon at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Her family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy from 10:30 AM until 11:45 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, Building Fund, 11109 Poole Road, Wendell, NC 27591.</p>March 14, 1931 - June 29, 202103/14/193106/29/2021
