John Joseph Foley

John Foley Jr. “Johnny Joe”, 72, of Lansing, died, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the Kansas City VA Hospital. He was born May 2, 1949, in Leavenworth to Lila Marie (Vandruff) and John “Jack” Foley Sr. John graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1968. After graduation he worked at Select Products (a division of Hallmark Cards). He was drafted into the Army in April of 1969 and served in Vietnam from September 1969 to November 1970. He served with the 61st medical battalion and the 1st Infantry Division. While in Vietnam, John earned the bronze star. He retired from Select Products January 20, 2006, after thirty-eight years. On May 22, 1971, John married Michelle “Mickie” Ferguson at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth, by Father Valentine Boyle. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Lori Schmoldt of Lansing; a son, John “JJ” (Esther) Foley III of Owasso, Okla.; two sisters, Ruby (Bob) Hubbard of Lansing, and Diann (Eric) Peterson of Leavenworth; six grandchildren, Michael Wilson, Marissa Foley, Isaiah Foley, Caleb Foley, Eden Foley and J Jordan Clark; six great grandchildren, Adam Johnson, Saundra Johnson, Karma Yorgovan, Alexander Yorgovan, Aaliyah Wilson and Octavia Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. John’s passion was his motorcycles. He rode on numerous charity rides and rode weekends and took short trips when time allowed. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and would light up anytime they walked in the door. He especially enjoyed getting hugs from them and watching them play outside, with the kitchen magnets or the holiday musical toys that danced. He got such a kick out of watching the kids dance with them. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project or PTSD Foundation of America.

John and I and several kids use to run around together if my memory is right John had a red Mustang and I remember when he was drafted but lost track of John after I left Leavenworth My prayers are with the family Kay Whittle ( Weddle)

Enjoyed working with John but most of all enjoyed the motorcycle trips. Especially when we went to Omaha on the 4th of July. The Sunday rides site seeing around Kansas and Missouri were most relaxing. I will miss coming out to his house to shoot the bull with him. RIP m... Continue Reading
