Sylvia Motley Dominey
Sylvia went to dwell with her Heavenly Father on June 29, 2021. She was born October 25, 1927, to Claude and Lucile Motley in Baltimore, MD. Sylvia graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta, GA. She worked in the banking world for many years until she married Henry “Jake” Dominey on December 26, 1952. She was a Pink Lady at ORMC for several years and a volunteer in the schools her daughter attended. She went back to college at 45 years of age and received a B. A. Degree in Education from Florida Technical University (now University of Central Florida). She became a librarian and worked in the Orange County School System until retirement. Sylvia was an avid seashell collector and displayed them in many shell shows throughout Florida for over 20 years. She won many trophies, including the Best of the Show, several years. She could be heard saying at many of the shows “What a wonderful God we have, who provides so much beauty for us to enjoy.” At the time of her death, Sylvia was a member of Big Sandy Baptist Church in Nickelsville, GA. She was a mighty prayer warrior for her family, friends, and her country. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Henry J. Dominey, her sister (Anne Motley Hamilton) and her beloved daughter, Denise Dominey Thomas. After her husband’s death, she moved to Georgia to be near her surviving granddaughters, Stefanie Thomas of Dublin, GA and Savannah Thomas of Pooler, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 11:00 am., with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Big Sandy Baptist Church, 15181 GA Highway 112, Toomsboro, Georgia, 31090, or to the donor’s favorite charity would be appreciated.
