Harold Smart

Harold Norman Smart, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone he met died peacefully at his home in Birchy Bay on June 29, 2021. Harold was born on July 24, 1928 to Alice (Genge) and Laurier Smart. He was raised and worked in Glovertown as a sawmill owner/operator and logger. In 1952 he married his first love, Doris Blackwood until her illness and passing in 1987. In 1989 he married Ada Pope-Quinlan and settled in Birchy Bay. They were married for 32 adventurous years. He loved to build boats as a hobby, building more than 50 boats over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his large blended family and each grandchild held a special place in his heart. He loved the outdoors and spent many weekends at the cabin with their special friends Bill (predeceased) and Dulcie Randall (Budgell). Harold was respected and loved by everyone who met him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Ada; daughter Dorothy (Ivan); step-children, John (Ivy), Clarence (Sharon), Christine (Derek), Claudia (Brian), Judy (Laurie), Darlene (Glen), Jim (Hollie), Maurice (Connie), Terry (Sharon) and David; 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; sister Norma and a large extended family. Harold is predeceased by his wife Doris, parents Alice and Laurier and infant son, Harold. Special thanks to his granddaughter, Diana for her love and attention to his care over the past few weeks as well as personal support workers, Melissa, Megan, Denise, Michelle, Monica and the home-based palliative care team at Central Health. Resting at Beacon Pentecostal Tabernacle in Birchy Bay, with visitation on Friday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, July 3rd, at 1pm. Interment to follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery in Glovertown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emergency Relief and Development Organization (ERDO) for development of clean water and wells in Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Honduras.
