Maureen Roberts

Maureen Roberts, of Easthampton, went to be with her husband on Tuesday morning June 29, 2021. She was 85. Maureen was born in Northampton on August 8, 1935, to Anna (Crabbe) and Timothy J. McCarthy. She graduated from St. Michael’s High School, worked as a telephone operator and then attended Providence Hospital School of X-Ray. She worked as an X-Ray Technician for several years until she started her family with Norman. While raising her three boys she did some bookkeeping, and started her own business, Roberts’ Rug Braiding Supplies. She sold supplies, designed and sold custom braided rugs throughout the area. As the children grew, she returned to work at Smith College Health Services. During this time, she returned to the x-ray field on a part-time basis at Smith College and at the VA Hospital in Leeds. Eventually she began to work full time at the VA Hospital and retired in 1999. Maureen was an avid traveler, taking several cross-country trips with her husband and companion Norman. She enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, camping, and sitting on the National Seashore beaches. Later she and Norman would spend their winters in Tucson, AZ where they enjoyed many friends from around the country. She and Norman loved taking day trips to various New England destinations. Maureen started as a seamstress for her family and later became an avid quilter. Many of her friends and family members have quilts, pillow cases, place mats and table runners for their homes. Maureen will be missed by her family; son Kenneth Roberts and wife Linda Burdock of Cumberland, MD, son Jim Roberts and wife Karla of Charlotte, NC, and son David Roberts and wife Julia of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren Kendra Braithwaite and husband Zach of Cumberland, MD, Casey Roberts and wife Lauryn of Frostburg, MD, Megan Roberts of Charlotte, NC, Taylor Roberts of Charlotte, NC, her great grandson Norman of Frostburg, MD and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her younger brother Thomas McCarthy and wife Linda of Northampton. Maureen was preceded in death by both parents Timothy J. McCarthy and Anna (Crabbe) McCarthy; brother Timothy J. McCarthy, wife Priscilla; brother Neal J. McCarthy; sister Jane Messier, husband Bud.
