Bobby Followay Giblin Monroe, North Carolina Obituary

Bobby Followay Giblin

Bobby Followay Giblin was born in Sprigg, West Virginia, on February 28, 1933. He was raised by his grandmother, Maude Chapman Followay, in his beloved state of West Virginia which he truly believed was "Almost Heaven." A Norfolk & Western train line passed next to his childhood home, fostering a lifelong love of trains. At the age of 18 he moved to New Jersey and began working for Little Falls Laundry where he met Kathryn Kievit, his boss's daughter. He then returned to West Virginia to enlist in the Army alongside his friends. He was stationed in Alaska where he faithfully wrote letters back and forth to Kathryn. He got braver every few letters by signing L, and then LO, and finally signing LOVE Bob. When he returned from his tour of duty he settled in New Jersey and began officially courting Kathryn. They were married on August 17, 1956. They had two children together: Susan was born in 1957, and Jack followed in 1961. Bob served his community as a door-to-door milkman for 12 years. After closing down Lakeside Dairy, he began working for Frederick's Fuel. He retired in 1995 after 17 years with the company. Bob was also a proud volunteer on the Hardyston First Aid Squad for 25 years. Bob and Kathryn moved to Monroe, North Carolina in 1999 to be closer to family, their grandchildren in particular! Bob is survived by his wife of almost 65 years: Kathryn Giblin, his two children: Susan (m. Lee) and Jack Giblin (m. Debbie Giblin), his four grandchildren: Jennifer (m. Charley), Matthew Giblin (m. Kristina Giblin), Jeffrey Giblin (m. Casie Giblin), and Lindsey Roberts (m. Jacob Roberts), and two great-granddaughters: Harley, and also Evelyn Roberts. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him, family and friends alike. A private service in Salisbury National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
