Joseph W Grosskopf Norridge, Illinois Obituary

Joseph W Grosskopf

Joseph W. Grosskopf, age 92, at rest on June 29, 2021. Joe was proud to be born and raised "im Bayerischen Wald" (in the Bavarian Forest). He came to Chicago from Germany in 1951, excited about the opportunity to build a new life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. While learning to speak English in night school, he met his wife, Catherine Filippi and they were married in 1954. Besides his wife of 66 years, Joe is survived by his children Doris Donch and Joseph R. (Helga) Grosskopf. He was devoted to his grandchildren and their spouses: Michael J. (Elena) Donch, Vanessa (Dan) Noreika, Kylie Donch, and Natasha Grosskopf (Jesus Lopez-Sanchez). He is also survived by his dear sister Lilo Pertl and many other cousins, all living in Germany. He loved his family and volunteered his time and accounting talent with the Society of Danube Swabians. After he retired from the Federal Government, Joe and Catherine enjoyed travelling with friends and spending part of the winter in Florida. When he wasn't tinkering around with home projects, Joe loved Soccer games, Opera and Sam Adams Beer. He will be missed, may he rest in peace. Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 9:30am until time of funeral service and Military Honors at 11:30am at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave, Norridge, IL. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by check to the “Society of Danube Swabians of the USA”, 625 Seegers Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016. http://www.donauchicago.com
