Terry McNeil

<p>Terry Lee McNeil, 72, transitioned comfortably and peacefully June 28, 2021. Terry was supported and surrounded by his loving and devoted wife and two daughters during his final hours.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also supported by the steadfast and meaningful words from devoted family members in various states. A retired military servicemember, an educator, a mathematician, a technology geek, a world-class marathoner, a speed reader, a knowledge seeker, and an avid Rubik&rsquo;s cube expert, Terry was a highly intelligent, disciplined, driven, yet down to earth man who knew no strangers and told shared wisdom-filled stories from a unique and interesting life. Mr. Terry McNeil was born in Little Rock, SC, on March 31, 1949. An enterprising young man, he was one of the first Black servers at South of the Border.&nbsp;&nbsp;Upon graduating from Lake View High School on May 31, 1967, Terry matriculated to Winston Salem State University, receiving a degree in Health and Physical Education.&nbsp;&nbsp;Terry was a star running back at WSSU and considered a Most Valuable Player.&nbsp;&nbsp;While attending WSSU, Terry became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.&nbsp;&nbsp;Around campus he was known by his classmates as &ldquo;Iceman&rdquo;. Terry also received several masters degrees including a Masters in Education from the University of Southern California.&nbsp;&nbsp;Terry was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a supply and logistics officer for over a decade, before transitioning to the United States Army where he was honorably discharged and retired with 20 years military service. Additionally, Terry taught middle grades math at Overhills Middle School, which he loved.&nbsp;&nbsp;He retired as an educator from Harnett County Schools. Terry spent his retirement years with his loving wife, Glenda, focusing heavily on health and wellness, marathoning, enjoying his family, and avidly following sports. Terry McNeil conquered the endurance race of his life, and we, his family, stood with him and rejoiced in his presence and accomplishments of his life.&nbsp;Terry has passed the baton to his devoted wife, Glenda McNeil; two daughters, Dr. Joy McNeil of Fayetteville, NC, daughter of Emma Dockery; and Whitney &ldquo;Peaches&rdquo; McNeil, of Red Springs, NC, daughter of Lisa Cooper; Three grandsons - Braylon Elijah McNeil, Payeton Nehemiah McNeil, and newborn, Laken Jace Melvin. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Bernit McNeil, his mother, Letha Bethea McNeil Glover, grandmother, Annie Mae Crawford, and his step-grandfather, Ben Crawford.&nbsp;Terry has nine dynamic siblings:&nbsp;&nbsp;Helen McNeil Murphy, Ronald Glover, Roy Glover, Michelle Glover Gertrude, Sharon Glover Young, Dana Glover, including three siblings who preceded him in death - Barbara Glover, Larry Glover, and William Glover. Niece and Nephew, Valeria McNeil Dawson and Keith D.
