Leon G. Steinke

Leon G. Steinke, 86, of Lake Summerset, IL died at 1:30 am Monday June 28, 2021 in Alpine Fireside Nursing Center in Rockford, IL after a brief illness. He was born July 14, 1934 in Kellner, WI the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Irene (Knipple) Steinke. Leon graduated from Wisconsin Rapids High School Class of 1952. Leon in his younger years worked in a papermill and then farmed. While farming he earned his Associate Degree in Information Technology from Herzing Institute and then he was employed by Amerock and Sundstrand in Rockford, IL and Economy Fire and Casualty Insurance in Freeport, IL. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Durand, IL. Former member of the Durand School Board, Durand Township Board. He mowed lots in Lake Summerset for over 40 years. Leon enjoyed spending time with his family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren, and attending their events. Survivors include: wife Marlene; daughter Linda (John) Hines; son Jeff (Shireen) Steinke; son Richard (Jody) Steinke; daughter Cheryl Steinke; son Rodney (Brenda) Steinke; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister Jean (Les) Elmer; brother Vernon Steinke; brother Duane Steinke; sister Kathleen Jackson; sister Margaret (Jeff) Gellerman; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, sister Ruth, brothers Raymond, Fred Jr., Myron, Melvin. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 am Friday July 2, 2021 in McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel 101 Main ST. Durand, IL with Reverend Richard Thickpenny officiating. Burial will be in Rock Run Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 7 pm Thursday.
