Frances Lorraine Thompson Obituary

Frances L. Thompson, age 94, of Cannon Falls, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Diamond Rehab and Living in Cannon Falls. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday, November 16, 2015 at Urland Lutheran Church, 6940 County 9 Blvd, Cannon Falls with Pastor Andrew Yackel officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, November 15 from 4-7 pm at Lundberg Funeral Home, 5839 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls and also one hour prior to service at church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Frances Lorraine (Nelson) Thompson was born November 28, 1920 to Mons and Carolyn (Spilde) Nelson at their home near Badger, South Dakota. She attended country school and graduated as valedictorian at Hetland High School in 1939. She attended Eastern Normal (Dakota State) and the Lutheran Bible Institute. It was here at LBI that she first met George O. Thompson. She taught country school for 4 years in South Dakota, first near Alexandria and one year near Madison. On May 31, 1945 she was married to George O. Thompson in Rantoul, Illinois, where he was stationed in the military. They lived a short time in Santa Barbara, California until George was discharged from the service. They moved to the Madison/Sioux Falls area where George attended Augustana College. George and Frances started a family, and their first child, Diann was born in Madison and Mark was later born in Sioux Falls. They moved to Minneapolis where Cheryl was born and George attended Luther Seminary. George and Frances accepted a call to a parish in Langford, South Dakota where they served from 1953-1966, which was also the place that Lori was born. They received and accepted a call to Urland/Wangen Prairie parishes in Cannon Falls. Frances enjoyed going with George on parish visits where she appreciated meeting others. Her life was very intertwined in ministry with George and the two made a great team. In thankfulness and praise to God, she is lovingly remembered by her children, Diann (Vern) Groen of Lanesboro, MN, Mark (Bonnie) Thompson of Custer, SD, Cheryl (Gene) Thomas of Shakopee, MN, Lori (Tom) Pasch of Cannon Falls, MN; 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Dave) DeWild, Mark (Trina) Groen, Zachary (Sarah) Thompson, Carl (Sarah) Thompson, Aaron (Stacie) Thompson, John (Karen) Thomas, Christine (Dave) Veldhuizen, David (Wendy) Thomas, Elizabeth (Jeff) Grossman, Becca Pasch and Matthew Pasch; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Hylle of Austin, MN as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband George and also her brother Myron.
