Nicholas Paul Humphrey, of Lake Forest, died quietly at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital on June 23, 2021, from complications linked to sudden cardiopulmonary failure. He was 22. Born on November 26, 1998 (Thanksgiving Day), in Evanston, Illinois, he moved shortly thereafter with his family to Lake Forest, Illinois. Nick attended Church of The Holy Spirit preschool, followed by Cherokee Elementary, and Deerpath Middle School before joining his older brother William at Cardigan Mountain School in New Hampshire for 8th and 9th grade. He attended high school at Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. He recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s School of Agriculture, majoring in Agronomy. This summer, he was engaged in active agricultural research through the school. Nick was passionate about exploring ways to feed more people in an ecologically sustainable manner. Throughout his time at UW - Madison, Nick was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He is remembered as a fun loving, compassionate, intelligent young man who was blessed with a charismatic personality. Nick possessed an uncanny ability to spot family and friends who were struggling and offered support without judgment. He was also a superb conversationalist, energized by his endless curiosity, and “Wikipedia-like,” understanding of professional sports, world news, and the natural world. He had many passions, including his love for the family dogs, and was especially fond of his oldest dog, Boomer. He is survived by his mother, Ellen Cook Humphrey; his brothers William (24) and Davis (20); and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, William Riverius Humphrey, III who passed away in 2012. Services have been held. A fund has been established at Lake Forest Bank & Trust Company to help the family with medical and funeral expenses.
