Marianne Conod Obituary

Marianne Conod, 69, passed away peacefully at her home in Long Valley, NJ on June 22, 2021 with her son, Andrew and her daughter Mariclare at her side. Born March 11, 1952 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Marianne was the second child of Regina (Jeanne) Cody and George A. Conod. She was raised in Bayside, NY and attended the highly competitive High School of Music and Art in Manhattan as a music student with piano as her performance area. Following high school, Marianne attended Thomas More College of Fordham University, graduating cum laude in 1973 with a major in English. She went on to attend graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania and obtained a Masters Degree in American Studies in 1976. She graduated from Law School at Seton Hall University in 1984 and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar. After practicing environmental law for 16 years, she chose to pursue her true passion as a Middle school teacher in New Jersey. For 12 years, she took a special interest in reading proficiency and served as a Model UN coach. Her great love of English literature, an extraordinary memory for everything she read, and her talent for making children's stories come alive were just some of her gifts to the many students who crossed her path. Her colleagues will remember her engaging personality, vibrant stories, and the delicious baked goods she often made and brought into work. In her private life she was a devout Catholic, active in the Church and Religious Education at Corpus Christi in Chatham, NJ where she was a parishioner and a participant in many outreach programs for others, including food programs for the homeless. She exhibited unwavering faith, constant optimism, and a remarkable strength of will, regularly sharing the belief that "everything happens for a reason". She was talented not only in music but filled her home with her framed embroidery projects, floral arrangements, and the precious artwork of her daughter. Her family was her life and her devotion to her children was visible to everyone she met. She is survived by her son, Andrew Hall, of West Springfield, MA and her daughters, Kathryn Hall of San Francisco, CA and Mariclare Hall of Philadelphia, PA. She leaves behind her brother, George Conod, of Big Bear Lake, CA and her sister, Elaine Conover, of New City, NY as well as four nieces and four nephews: Christopher Conover, Courtney Dedman, Meghan Conover, Matthew Conover, Deirdre Conway, Kim Solis, Kevin Conod, and Patrick Conod, and many grandnieces and nephews (Julian, Sean, Charlotte, Aidan, Nolan, and Brendan Conover; Charlotte, Kaitlyn, and Mackenzie Conod; Fintan and Delaney Dedman). She will be missed by her family and friends and her loss felt by all who knew her. Her life will be celebrated with a wake on Friday June 25, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Rd., Chester, NJ and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am on Saturday June 26, 2021 at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 234 Southern Blvd., Chatham Township, NJ. She will be laid to rest at German Valley Rural Cemetery, 80 Coleman Road, Long Valley, NJ.
