Donna Mae Ryerson Peterson Nevada, Iowa Obituary

Donna Mae Ryerson Peterson

Donna Mae Ryerson Peterson, 96, passed away June 22 at Israel Family Hospice House. She was born June 5, 1925, the only child of Stan and Thelma Mosey, owners of Mosey Cafe in Slater, Iowa. Following graduation from Slater High, Donna worked at the Slater Creamery until she married Theodore Ryerson in March 1947. They farmed in their early marriage years and in 1956, purchased the John Deere dealership in Nevada. Together they owned and operated Ryerson Implement, with Donna doing the office work. Donna continued to work at the dealership following Ted’s sudden and unexpected death in 1975. Ted and Donna had two daughters, Marcia and Nancy. In December 1980, Donna married Lester Peterson and they lived on the farm near Gilbert before moving to Ames. Those of us lucky enough to call her Mom, Grandma Donna or friend will miss her kindness, love, understanding and encouragement. She loved to travel and was involved for several years in the Friendship Force, which allowed her to travel the world making friends. When she wasn’t traveling, you could often find her enjoying the view from her condo in Clear Lake. She was active in numerous clubs, groups and organizations including her bridge club, circle at Memorial Lutheran, Bible study, T.T.T., College for Seniors, Ames Woman’s Club, and volunteering at Mary Greeley Hospital. She valued education, loved to learn, enjoyed reading, playing the piano, china painting and always had time for a good visit. Donna is survived by her daughters, Marcia Steed (Hap) and Nancy Landess (Bob) and stepsons Ron Peterson (Carol) and Loren Peterson (Laura). Grandchildren include Kim Reilly, Mandy Ramzan, Ryan Barker, Jim Lile, Mark Lile, Jeff Lile, Randy Peterson, Tina Marth, Keathen Winter, Joseph Peterson, Carrie Teppl, Paul Peterson, Tommy Peterson and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Ted Ryerson and Lester Peterson, and her stepdaughter Mary Lile. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Parkway in Nevada. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. Burial will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
