Joan B. Chapin passed away at age 85 on December 30, 2014. She was born in St. Louis, MO and reared in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. degree in zoology and from Louisiana State University (LSU) with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology. She developed and was curator of the LSU Insect collection, and taught a course in insect taxonomy. She retired as a Professor from the LSU Entomology Agricultural Center. She is survived by her children: Larry Chapin and wife Julie; Roger Chapin and wife Rene'; and daughter Martha Chapin; grandchildren, Thomas Chapin and his wife, Jennifer; Melissa Mirch, and Lauren Chapin. Sister-in-law, Mary Beggs and nephews, Thomas and wife, Sarah; Ed; nieces, Linda Harp and husband, Robert; Sherri Mullen and husband, Kevin; Jane Schumacher and husband, Michael and cousin, Paul Beggs. She was preceded in death by her parents Myra H. and Thomas P. Beggs, brother James H. Beggs and her cousin Joy Sparrow. Services will be held at a later date.
