Kenneth Jarratt Obituary

JARRATT, Kenneth 'Ken' Caldwell Passed away at The Village of Tansley Woods on Monday, June 14th, 2021 at the age of 99. Beloved husband of Emily Jean (nee Whitehead) for over 73 years. Loving father of Hilary Jarratt and her husband Ian McGill of Uxbridge, and Christopher Jarratt and his wife Alexandra Reade of Oakville. Cherished grandfather to Emma and Mark and twice proud great-grandfather (Eva and Aiden) — Ken always filled the imaginations of “the children” with stories about his adventures and patient teachings about how to fix almost anything. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Agnes, and brother Denis. Ken’s life ended surrounded by his family who adored him. Ken was born in Manchester, England and proudly served in the RAF from 1939-1945 while stationed in Greece and North Africa. After serving, Ken trained in England as an electrical engineer. He and Emily married in 1948 and immigrated to Canada in 1952, first living in Toronto before moving to Vancouver and, finally, returning to Southern Ontario to raise their family. Ken arrived in Canada an energetic mid-lifer and quickly embraced national pastimes including annually building the best neighbourhood skating rink in southern Ontario, skiing (both snow and water), boating and a dedication to preservation of wildlife and the environment — a true model of the Canadian immigrant story. Ken loved his adopted country and applied his values of hard work, perseverance and a belief in making the most of all opportunities. Ken was proud of his contributions to the design and construction of many infrastructure projects across Canada. He is fondly remembered for being community-minded, immensely kind and generous to others with his time and knowledge. Ken filled his family’s lives with humour, immense creativity, stability and (occasionally exasperating) thoroughness. While his family will miss Ken dearly, they are proud that his values will live on in those who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at The Village of Tansley Woods and to Dr. 'Chris' Ragonetti for their exceptional care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations made in Ken's memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Halton - Burlington, or your preferred wildlife foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
