Captain Gary Jones Obituary

Gary Winson Jones, 71, went to his heavenly home on June 15, 2021 at his residence in Houston, Texas. He was born to parents Ray Borden and Wilma Theo (Morris) Jones on July 19, 1949 in Brawley, California. Before the time when many referred to Gary as “Captain”, he was a federal firefighter in California before serving his country in the United States Army. Gary proudly fought as a helicopter door gunner during his year of fighting in the Vietnam War before returning home to marry the love of his life, Edith. He truly treasured her and did everything he possibly could to care for and support her. Gary began his career in law enforcement in Harris County soon after their marriage. He served on the Mounted Patrol Unit with the constable’s office, and then dedicated the rest of his years as a Captain for Precinct 3 Harris County Constable. He obtained a Doctorate in Therapeutic Hypnosis which he was able to apply to his service in law enforcement. Gary mentored numerous teenagers and fellow police officers throughout his 32 years on the force before his retirement. Throughout his life, Gary had a passion for hot-rods and was especially proud of his Dodge Challenger. He was truly known for his selfless and altruistic nature, always putting others first before himself. Gary was a doting husband, loving father and uncle, and he will be greatly missed by his family and the members of the community that he loved to serve. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith Jones; and twin sisters, Dorothy Rae and Marilyn Jones. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jason Jones and wife Amber, Elizabeth Jones and husband Franco Silva; brother, Ken Jones and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Jordyn Jones, Lexy Jones, Aaliyah Silva, Elijah Silva; and beloved dog and companion, Nascar, who loved to spend his days watching Gun Smoke with Gary. The family invites you to join them for a visitation on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Carter-Conley Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Crosby, 615 Runnenburg Rd, Crosby, Texas. A funeral procession will immediately follow to Sterling White Cemetery in Highlands for a 12:30 P.M. graveside service with military honors, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, under the direction of Carter-Conley Funeral Home.
