Michael Joseph Gallery

Mr. Gallery was born March 9, 1950, in Charlotte, North Carolina.  His family later moved to Florence, South Carolina, where he lived before his college years.  After graduating from the Law School of The University of South Carolina he moved to Columbia, South Carolina, before retiring to Bakersville, North Carolina.

Mr. Gallery received his undergraduate degree from Belmont Abbey, in Belmont, North Carolina, where he was a member of the basketball team, and Phi Kappa Theta – NC Alpha Rho (alumni).  Mr. Gallery received his Law Degree from the Law School of University of South Carolina, in Columbia, South Carolina.  He was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, and practiced Family Law in Columbia, South Carolina, until retiring in 2003.  He was the co-founder and operator of The Quiet Place, a retreat located in Bakersville, North Carolina, with his wife.  He was also President of The Quiet Place NC, Inc.

Gallery, Jr., Columbia, South Carolina; Katie Gallery Fox, Cockeysville, Maryland; Molly Gallery, Columbia, South Carolina; Step-Children, Ashley Carmichael, Coral Springs, Florida, Wade Britt, Des Moines, Iowa; Grandchildren: Lucy Leitch, Alex Fox, Carolina Fox, Piper Gallery, Julian Carmichael, Wade Britt, John Paul Britt, and Joji Britt; Brother, George Patrick Gallery, Columbia, South Carolina, and Sister, Harriet Hulsart Spring, Florence, South Carolina.  Other family members remaining, include aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Gallery raced sailboats, out of Columbia Sailing Club, and continued his love of riding The Blue Ridge Parkway on his Harley, up until this year.  He was a man of many accomplishments, but if you asked him about himself, his first response would be that he was a man of God, in service to The Lord, and temporary custodian of The Quiet Place. He completed his earthly mission, and returned Home at 7:08 PM, Saturday, June 12, 2021.  He was at peace, and closer than ever to God.  He will be missed, by many, but his ministry work will live on, for many.  Fair sailing, good, and faithful servant.

Mr. Gallery asked that there be no funeral or memorial service, but that those he loved, and who loved him, memorialize him in their memories, hearts, and prayers.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chapel Fund, at The Quiet Place will be gratefully accepted.  He was overseeing the construction of a bridge and road, leading up to the site of the chapel in the woods, when he passed.
