Obituary

Reu Hutchins Hudson Christensen, 94, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of failing health. She was born January 12, 1927 to the late Sidney D. and Myrtle Lowder Hutchins and was the wife of the late Kendal Christensen.

Ninety-four years ago, Reu was born in Raleigh, NC.  She moved to the Burlington area as a teen.  As the years progressed, she married and became a mom.  She held a variety of jobs outside the home while taking care of home and children, but she was always searching for ways she could more fully use her talents and creativity.

When her marriage ended, she changed her name from Reu Hudson to Reu Kayle and became the creator and owner of Kayle Country Puppets.  She made hundreds of puppets and helped many churches establish puppet ministries, teaching women’s groups to make the puppets and teaching teams of children to use them.

More years passed until she met and later married her soulmate, Kendal Christensen.  With him, she found the happiness she had always prayed for.

She was a person of tremendous faith who spent her life in service to others. Reu’s ministries were wide and varied, too many to list here.  Her life touched many lives both in her own community and in places far away.

Survivors include her son, Tim Hudson and wife Donna; daughter, Anita Holloway; adopted daughter, Beth Courtney; grandson, Taylor Hudson and sisters, Vivian Wilson and Joan Chrismon.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Alyce Bowman, Chris Miller, Jackie Hutchins and a brother, Johnny Hutchins.

A service to celebrate Reu’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Mitchell with a visitation to follow.  You may also watch the service at www.lowefuneralhome.com.  She will be entombed at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Tim Hudson in Caswell County.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Appalachian Project, PO Box 55911, Lexington, KY 40555-55911.  You may also visit www.Christianapp.org.

If you were lucky enough to have had this special lady grace your life or the life of someone you know, we would like to plan a time to gather together to reminisce and celebrate the life of our mother, “REU”.

If you would like to be part of this celebration, you can email the word “REUnion” along with your name and telephone number to hardson1@yahoo.com.  You may also call or text the same information to 336-263-7756.  We will get back in touch when the details are finalized.
