Harold died June 12, 2021, at Edgewood Mandan. Memory Care.

Harold, son of Edward and Margaretha (Schneider) Blumhardt was born May 11, 1928, in McIntosh County, ND. He attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Nitschke on October 17, 1948, in Peace Lutheran Church, rural Ashley. They made their first home in Ellendale, ND and soon after they moved 17 miles south of Fredonia, ND in McIntosh County where they farmed and raised a family. Harold was a member of the Berlin Baptist Church. After moving to Ashley in 1975, he became a member of Ashley Baptist Church.

Harold enjoyed farming in which he saw a need to improve the method of applying liquid fertilizer. From there interest grew with area farmers wanting to utilize his inventions. He soon found that he outgrew his farm shop and in 1972 he purchased a building in Ashley. By 1977 he and his staff had outgrown the building and built an industrial plant in the northwest corner of Ashley. There he also invented irrigation systems for southern orchards. Blumhardt Manufacturing was sold in 1988.

During his retirement, he enjoyed winters spent in Arizona with family and friends.

Harold is survived by two daughters, Linda (Sidney) Berreth of Bismarck and Randa (Jay) Wik of Fergus Falls, MN; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Treana) Berreth, Sarah Berreth, Jason (Amanda) Wik, and Katie (Nicholas) Hove; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Kolby Berreth, Ethan and Andrew Wik and Amelia and Remy Hove.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gladys, five infant siblings, four brothers, Edwin, John, Jacob, and Reinhold, four sisters, Emilia Kungel, Hertha Wolf, Martha Meidinger and Esther Skaley and one great-grandson, Dax Hove.

The family prefers memorials to Caring Edge Home Health and Hospice, 600 S. 2nd St., Bismarck, ND 58504.
