The world is poorer for the passing of Harry C. (“Pete”) Peterson of Littleton, Colorado, on May 28, 2021. Pete (aka Harry, HCP, Pop, Pops, Poppa Pete, Daddy, Mr. P, Dr. P, Dr. Peterson, Uncle Pete, and Papa Bear) was an amazing man with a brilliant mind. From his early start in LaSalle, Colorado, he went on to earn his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from Cornell University. In addition to his penchant for tinkering and invention, Pete maintained lifelong interests in far-ranging eclectic fields and an unwavering love of classic British sports cars. Early in his career, Pete contributed to the success of the Titan rocket program at Martin Marietta. He was also a professor at Cornell University, University of Denver, and Colorado School of Mines. Later, Pete became a nationally-recognized expert on motorcycle safety. Pete is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delores Hamlet Peterson, four grateful daughters, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Moe, the family dog. Also missing Pete is a large extended family, composed of both blood relations and family by choice.
